Most of us may be feeling tired and frustrated by the tough situation we are experiencing in our countries, cities, communities: bad impacts of Covid-19 on people’s health and access to food, violence and shrinking space for civil society on the part of authorities. Hard to imagine a positive future for ourselves and especially in the case of youth. But we nonetheless have our dreams about how things should be. Are we doing what we can to put them into action? Let's talk about it at the Festival of Ideas!
The People’s Sovereignty Network is organizing a Festival of Ideas — in a series of three 2-hour dialogic workshops — to share winning strategies of resistance and transformation in the current situation of economic and political power imbalances made worse by Covid-19. We will talk about ‘people’s sovereignty’ but we want to understand better what it means in practice, in our territories. We want to take a good look at what we’re thinking of when we talk about democratic decision-making by the people, or ‘democracy’. And we want to do so not by listening to lectures but by exchanging our experiences and insights, asking researchers and academics to give us some replies to our questions, and coming out with our ideas for concrete action and our creative products: including poems, posters, plays, political manifestos, and others.
There will be three workshops: Sunday, June 6, June 27 and July 18 from 15.00 to 17.00 CET. The same 40 people will participate in all three. Each member of the People's Sovereignity Network should select participants and, if these persons are not among youth (18–35 years) they can select a young person from the same organization or from another that is not yet involved in the Network. The final selection of 40 people will give most space to young people and will also consider gender and regional balance.
The People's Sovereignty Network will collect names for participation and the process will be closing the 21st of May.
